Seafood is king along Alabama’s Gulf Coast, and there’s no place better to sample the local fare than Wolf Bay Lodge. Charlene Haber, a second generation owner (and fellow class-mate of mine), continues the tradition of serving fresh, delicious seafood in a family-friendly atmosphere. The Lodge began as a bait shop in the 1940s on Wolf Bay in Elberta, Alabama. Charlene’s parents purchased it in 1973 and began serving a full menu of delicious seafood dishes, many from recipes of ladies that worked or lived nearby. The original restaurant was destroyed by fire in 2008, but Charlene rebuilt in two locations – Orange Beach and Foley. Speaking for the residents of Baldwin County, we are soooo glad she did!
The two locations have different menus, but the food is always delicious in both. Charlene has kept some of the original recipes, including the Seafood Gumbo and the Stuffed Flounder. The Lodge doesn’t take reservations, and both locations are always busy, so plan for a wait. Believe me, it will be worth it. Click on the links below to check out the menus, then plan a trip. And Remember, you can live here, too!
